Choosing a domain name is a very critical part of your website marketing strategy.

Pick a domain name that gives your prospects what they most desperately desire. By including the keywords in your domain name that are your customers desires, including them in your marketing messages and your website content you cant help but flood traffic to your website!
Wondering what your customers desires are If so, youll need to determine what your really selling. Lets look at an example product here: home security alarm system.
Keep in mind few people know, nor do they care what the heck the product looks like or the features of the product such as size, color, weight, speed, or availability. The only thing they have an interest in is the results your product will achieve for them. It all boils down to whats-in-it-for-me
Why would a prospect purchase a home alarm system Whats-in-it-for-them If you think for just a moment youll come up with the right answer.
Yes, its to protect their jewelry or valuables while they are at work or when the house is empty.
You must stop thinking of yourself or the features of your product to determine what your customers deepest desires are. By turning your product or service features into benefits or results youll be able to hit their hot buttons and flood traffic to your website in the process.
The easiest way to turn features into benefits is to list all the features of your product or service on a piece of paper first. (a feature is a characteristic of a thing: size, color, weight, speed, availability) Then one by one turn each feature into a benefit for your customer. The traffic driving potential of keyword targeted domain names is awesome, provided that you research your target market and satisfy their true needs, desires and benefits. Once you have established this system for marketing, youll be able to use your domain name to construct specific ad campaigns targeted to specific markets even if your website offers multiple products and services.
To take it a step further, you could formulate a domain name that works like a headline for a classified ad. When you break a headline down it should have several different parts. It should fan the flames of desire with a hint of information about solving a specific problem, satisfying a need, providing a benefit, or invoking curiosity with a call to action. Your domain name should contain as many of these headline characteristics as possible. Try and phrase the keywords into something relatively short, catchy and easy to remember.
Keep in mind whats-in-it-for-me as to what your really selling. The job of your domain name is to act like a headline to drive targeted traffic to your website by scratching the itch of your customers. If youve found the right words to scratch that itch, then ONLY YOU can put it to use in your domain name. Youll find that not only will you do better on your search engine rankings youll also attract a lot more attention with your pay per click ads or any type of advertising you use.

Domain Name = Website Name
The best domain name for your site is to name it the same as your website name or your business name. For example, my site is called Simple Strategy Online, so I choose domain name SimpleStrategyOnline.com. Other example, if you sell photo frame called Shikaku, so your best domain name would be shikaku.com.
Using Keywords
Keywords on domain names are important to help you get high ranking on the search engines. For my previous example you can use domain name such as: shikakuphotoframe.com OR cheapphotoframe.com. Shikaku.com will still the best to use, but then again, you also want to think a strategy to get your site listed high on the search engine. Thus I suggest you get 2 domain names, shikaku.com and cheapphotoframe.com that both point to your website. SO, one domain that is your website / business name that people will remember it easily, and one domain that is specially used for search engine promotion.
Long or Short
You can have up to 67 characters for a domain name. It is really up to you, for easy to remember domain name, sure you need a shorter domain name, but for search engine promotion you can use long domain name.
Hyphenated or Not
You can have hyphenated domain names, example: cheap-photo-frame.com. The disadvantages using this kind of domain names are that people dont remember it easily and seldom forget the hyphen. But the search engine will be easily distinguish your keywords better. SO, this type of domain name is good for your keywords domain name that will be used for search engine promotion.
.com .net .org or
There are many domain name extention available right now. .com is the most common one, you should go for .com first. .org is usually used for a non-profit organization. Most of the time, people use other than .com is just because the .com is not available anymore.
Alternative
Most likely, the short domain you want is not available anymore. If shikaku.com is not available, you can use: myshikaku.com, shikakuonline.com or theshikaku.com. If you insist to have the domain name you want which is currently unavailable, you can always wait for it be available for you to buy, amazingly there are thousands of good domain names expired daily that you can buy.
